Excursions for SPIN 2004

 

5 excursions are arranged for Wednesday the 13th of October in the afternoon.

You can choose one among the five proposals described hereafter

Please, make your registration for the tour before Friday, September 24.

Confirmation and payment (cash) of the excursion you choose will be at the arrival at the Registration.

 

 

 

1 Trieste and surroundings

price: 25.00 Euro (all the entrance are included)

 

 

Visit of the center of the city, along the area built at the time of Marie Theresa of Austria, the seashore and the main square, up to the modern harbor.

Walk through the old city and visit of an Orthodox Church and/or an Austrian style coffee shop, hill of Saint Just, with visit of the cathedral and panoramic view on the gulf of Trieste from Saint Just castle.

Transfer to The Giant Cave of the Trieste Carso is the largest tourist cave in the world. It is an extraordinary 107 m high, 160 m long and 65 m wide hall.

The cave is famous for its leaved stalagmites that look like palm-tree and for its peculiarity that can be contained the saint Peter’s cathedral in Rome.

Various instruments have been placed inside huge geodetic pendulums (to measure “earth tides”) and seismographs, whose measurements are interesting for the international scientific community.

              

 

 

2 The Postumia caves (Postojnska jama)   ( Slovenia) 

Discovering the subterranean world of the Carso surrounding

Price: 25 Euro(all the entrance are included)

 

Excursion on the Karst plateau surrounding Trieste crossing the Italian border (passport and visa is required for no European community) enter in one of the youngest country in Europe Slovenia

Visit of the largest cave and most visited show cave in Europe.

You begin your visit aboard the cave train and the electric lighting allows you to admire the size and splendor of the underground world.

The visit is quite comfortable, walk distance is about 45 minutes and the rest seat in the yellow electric train.

Not recommended only for people suffering cardiopathies

Temperature inside of the cave is about 38 Fahrenheit

Time visit of the cave is one hour and twenty minutes.

 

 

 

3 The San Canziano caves (Skocjanske jame - Slovenia) 

Discovering the subterranean world of the Carso surrounding

Price: 25 Euro(all the entrance are included)

 

Excursion on the Karst plateau surrounding Trieste crossing the Italian border (passport and visa is required for no European community) enter in one of the youngest country in Europe Slovenia

Visit a unique underground gorge and its many vast chambers make Skocjan Caves special.

They are a system of eleven interconnected caves, collapse dolines, natural bridges and sinkholes.

Since 1986 they have been under protection of UNESCO as a part of its World Heritage Site.

The system is essentially marked by the Reka-Velka river, which flows through the caves, where it falls into a series of cascades and water-falls, tumbles down the rocks or comes to rest in small underground lakes.

The visit is not recommended for people suffering from giddiness

A visit with experienced guides will take you an hour and a half.

 

 

 

4 Aquileia and Grado

Price: 20 Euro(all the entrance are included)

 

Excursion through the ruins of what was the fourth biggest City, at the time of Emperor Augustus. Visit of the magnificent Romanesque basilica and its crypt, famous for the largest mosaic of the Roman antiquity.

Back to one of the best seaside resort of the Adriatic sea, the island of Grado, famous for the gold sand beaches and its old center, Walk through the old town .

 

 

 

5 Villa Manin in Passariano

Price: 20 Euro(all the entrance are included)

 

 Visit of a summer residence of the last Doge of Venice, one of the largest villa. Visit of the chapel, stables and lovely English garden, an ancient park covering 19 hectares forming an integral part of the monumental complex.

Carlo Goldoni defined Villa Manin as “a residence worthy of a king”.

Home to the newly-created Contemporary Art Center.

LOVE/HATE is the present art exhibition with masterpieces from the collection of the Chicago Museum of Contemporary art

50 artworks including painting, sculture, video. Photography and installation from one of the most renowned collections in the United States.

The exhibition included also at the first floor an investigation through the work of 24 young Italian painters, the show will look at how technology and news means of communication have influenced the new generation of painters
